We have always believed RuneScape's potential in the area of idle games from Marie's blog

There are still plenty of OSRS Gold Indie success stories, maybe more so when big studios are realizing the potential of these games. However, the tale of RuneScape is one of trial and error, which is something is not often available to developers today.Beyond that, it's an extremely well-crafted idle game. Furthermore, its importance on allowing players to pick their own way through the game is what makes it distinguish itself from the plethora of idle games that force players into increasing their number continuously."

Discussions continued, and Melvor Idle was soon signed to Jagex Partners, the RuneScape firm's publishing arm. Jagex offered Malcolm guidance on development and assisted with a complete brand refresh and also assisted with the management of communities and localisation. This included turning an idea created by a single person into a product accessible in 13 local languages (so that far).

The launch was earlier this month as well as the Early Access version proved this formula is popular with RPG gamers, having been downloaded over 600,000 times in Steam and the two major mobile app stores. This far exceeded the initial goals of Malcolm when he began his journey. Naturally, he hoped his strategy would succeed but it wasn't a 'endgame that he was thinking of.

"Luckily the enjoyment that fueled the initial months of development was with me for the past few years of development, and being working together with Jagex directly on this is an absolute dream come true," he says. "I did not think I'd eventually get the support of the very studio which inspired me in beginning.

The leap from hobby to fan-driven project was obviously terrifying however, looking back at the direction I've taken, and the kind of support I've received for establishing Games by Malcs as an young and promising studio, it's definitely been the most successful."

Despite the close relationship to Melvor Idle and RuneScape, and the direct involvement of Jagex, the publisher opted to keep the game as an original IP instead of create an officially-licensed RuneScape spin-off. Partly, this was recognition of the fact that Malcolm was successful in a place that Jagex itself had failed.

"We considered making an inactive RuneScape game several years ago, with RuneScape: Idle Adventures," Pfeiffer says. "In Alpha, we stopped development in order to concentrate our efforts on the main RuneScape games, and Melvor Idle more than proves that RuneScape can be a great idle game. However, Melvor Idle stands up on its own merits as well, and we wanted to stay as true to Buy RuneScape Gold the original vision of Melvor Idle that Brendan did when he first started creating Melvor Idle."
