In spite of having well-balanced gameplay and some genuinely useful new features across its various game modes, MT 2K22 PS4 will, despite being the best installment 2K Sports has ever released, most likely leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

They are a mix of the old and the new, and they are all intertwined with the seemingly never-ending squeeze on players' pockets.  Our best efforts have not prevented us from falling asleep at the wheel and falling into a generation of sports games that are defined by microtransactions rather than simply pockmarked by them.

Those unfamiliar with the 2K Sports' massively popular basketball simulation should take note of the following quick rundown: there are two main game modes, MyCareer and MyTeam, with the latter serving as a sort of basketball-specific version of FIFA Ultimate Team.  Despite the fact that MyNBA in the franchise mode is still available, and despite the fact that it retains a dedicated following, the primary NBA 2K experience these days is either developing your character's skills in MyCareer or assembling your fantasy team of former and current players in myTeam.

Both modes have received a lot of attention, and the gameplay has been refined to the point where it has become a legitimate source of revenue for 2K Sports.

It used to be that the MyCareer storyline was the most important part of the franchise (in fact, Spike Lee was recruited to write the story for NBA 2K16, such was the importance of the storyline), but it has become increasingly diluted and feels more like a means of escorting players to the true main event: The City, which is a next-generation exclusive experience.  Comparing the City to previous games, it can be seen as an evolution of the Neighbourhood, which was itself an extension of MyPark.  While the previous games were almost enjoyable, the introduction of the City in NBA 2K21 paved the way for the overstuffed world of empty buildings that we are now accustomed to seeing in sports games.

One of the most impressive aspects of the City open world hub is its sheer size, which is filled with the kinds of excesses that you might expect an up-and-coming NBA star to be interested in.  One of the most impressive aspects of the City open world hub is its sheer size.  Barbers and tattoo parlors can be found here, as well as an entire shopping district containing approximately 20 fictional and real-world brands (such as American Eagle or Adidas, which are all open for business), and a store called Wheels, which we'll discuss in more detail later.

The fact remains that fetch quests are an important part of the overall experience of being a resident of The City, as they involve meeting a character on one side of the map and then being directed to another to take part in a side game that helps you improve your character's reputation and ability.  If we didn't get the message somewhere along the line, basketball fans did not express a desire for this to happen at any point in the process.  Participants in a basketball role-playing game did not have to pay the £60 entry fee.  Despite the fact that you can applaud 2K for being innovative and attempting something no one else has attempted before, any goodwill you may have for them is quickly eroded by the insulting manner in which you are forced to navigate their world.

You want to travel more quickly, don't you? You could, for example, go to Wheels and spend 65,000 VC on a BMX bike, which is the equivalent of $21 in real-world money.  The sales pitch is both obvious and offensive in its vulgarity, which makes it a difficult sell.  You don't want to waste your time in this world we've created for you by wasting your time on one tedious quest after another, do you? You will have to pay a price for it.

The ability to create custom spawn locations can also be unlocked, though doing so will necessitate a 26. 2-mile journey through The City.  Considering that the map is only 0. 6 miles long and takes three minutes to cross, you'll have to skateboard around the map for a total of 131 minutes before you'll be able to select that option.  Aside from that, once you have accumulated 1 million MyPoints (which you earn by completing various tasks in The City and by performing well on the courts), your luxurious new apartment will be equipped with a zipline that will allow you to virtually instantly travel to each of the four major points on the map.
