Blizzard Would Like WoTLK Classic Gold World of Warcraft wotlk Legacy Servers According to Nostalrius Manager

In the month of April Blizzard closed an illegal World of Warcraft wotlk server that was a part of the game's early days before it was able to receive any expansions. Blizzard had a meeting with the Nostalrius team responsible for Nostalrius in the past, and can we learn what they discussed about, and what Blizzard takes a stand on the topic of old servers.

"After the discussion, we are able to say that they want to continue to run an older version of WoW servers, that's certain," said project manager Viper on the Nostalrius forums. "We made every effort in order to ensure that this talk and discussions as polished as we could this surely was a pleasant surprise delight for the entire Blizzard team, CEO Mike Morhaime, too."

The scheduled time for the meeting was less than two hours however, it ended up lasting longer than five hours. Viper claims the Blizzard was "very engaged, interested and engaged." Participants included Morhaime as well as director of production J. Allen Brack, and game director Tom Chilton. Viper states that the Nostalrius team was "very shocked by the level of respect and admiration they felt for" the work on their legacy servers they'd done.

The discussion were held on the history of the pirate server and how it was created and various other technical aspects such as the anti-cheat system that the team developed for Nostalrius. However, nothing pertaining to bringing the official legacy servers to live was agreed upon.

"First of all, do not forget that when you work in a large organization it is impossible to make a decision at one time and they are entitled to declare any official"yes" or "no,"" Viper wrote. Viper also added that Blizzard has its source code to "Vanilla WoW," and it will require "tremendous efforts" to get it up and running.

"In out of the technological requirements of releasing a legacy server, Blizzard will also need to offer an extremely refined game that is accessible to its millions of buy WoTLK Gold players, something that traditional legacy servers that are not officially licensed cannot offer," Viper wrote. It is possible to see the kind of technical work will need to be accomplished at the Nostalrius forums.
